Camera Techniques

From extensive research into numerous camera techniques, i decided to share and explain the key and most useful ones for our production. From doing this i gathered a strong understanding into how each shot will impact and illustrate specific scenes when applied, essentially improving the quality and continuity.

180 Degree Camera Rule

This picture provides the explanation to how this camera rule works. It shows the axis, of which two characters are standing on, with the 180 degree arcs of which is surrounding them. The camera is then positioned on one side of the 180 degree arc, in this case on the green side. The camera is then capable of moving along the arc in a semi-circle motion without entering the red side, as shown on the image. Although if the camera does cut from the green arc to the red, the characters will swap positions on screen.

Shot Reverse Shot

This camera shot is used in order to show the audience to characters engaging in conversation with one another, providing any necessary features of the characters face as it swaps between them.

Match On Action

As shown, this is an editing technique used to cut from shot to shot. In which the second shot portrays the action, that happened, in the first shot.

Various Camera Techniques

Although the first three camera techniques are the main source of shots used, here are a set of diverse shots of which are not as common but are also used.
