Eminem 'Curtain Call: The Hits' Album and Advert Analysis

This is the front cover for Eminem album 'Cutain Call: The Hits'. From looking at this image, we are able to see that a main stage and someone bowing, with roses at their feet, is the dominate picture. This correlates with the album title 'Curtain Call', considering a curtain call is when the cast and crew take a bow in front of the audiences applaud after the theatrical performance. Thereby this can connote a number of ideas; the album cover and title intertwine with one another to give a perception, the album contains all of Eminem's greatest hits and Eminem is taking a bow to show a thankful gesture towards his fans. The roses lying on the floor denote love as they were thrown onto the stage by the audience, typically meaning they adored the performance.

The inside cover is simply Dr. Dre sitting with his head in his hands at the sound mixer while Eminem stands in the booth, rapping. This picture connotes the significance of hard work that they both went through in order to complete the album as we see Dr. Dre to appear tired or frustrated but also Eminem to be grinding. Although this cover puts Dr. Dre to be in the spotlight. Thereby giving recognition to Dr. Dre for all his effort and work done to the album, since he helped produce it.

Again, the back cover shows the performer on the main stage with roses at his feet, although this time its from a different perspective of which implements various new shadows onto the stage, potentially being the fans and photographers. This connotes, not only can the fans do great things for the artists or performers but they can also be a burden to them as the shadows may represent the darkness breaching into the artists life.

Here we see a close up of the back cover, displayed as the CD cover. The only difference is the change in tone, from colour to black indicating a change or disappearance in emotion. Similarly applying the darkness into his life, likewise from the back cover.

The following is an album poster for Eminem album 'Curtain Call'. The poster provides recognition of the album itself by previewing its artwork. It also reveals that the album is already out, therefore making the audience aware but also influencing them into purchasing the newly released album. Everything unveiled on the poster is conventional of a promotional poster; being it includes the artist, album name and artwork. All of which is all in the same font as the original album itself, thereby keeping consistency.
Overall, it is unambiguous that both of these media texts coordinate with each other due to their matching typography and artwork; providing synergy. The synergy integrates an effect onto the product that is greater than the sum of the individual element, such as being advertised solely on its own. Having greater advertisement promotes the artist and album on a wider scale but also encapsulates more consumers to purchase the product.
